Attending a Job Fair

Preparation is the key to your success

This is an opportunity to meet prospective employers face-to-face. View contacts as important networking opportunities to further your job search efforts.

  • Go early while recruiters are fresh and attentive.
  • Put your resume together and bring at least 20 copies.
  • Dress professionally. That means a suit or sport coat and slacks, with a tie for men and a suit or dress and jacket for women. Wear comfortable dress shoes.
  • Be ready to interview. Practice your presentation; you only have a couple of minutes with each employer to make a positive impression.
  • At some job fairs, free job search seminars and workshops are offered.
  • Arrange for child care and don’t bring friends.
  • Follow-up with a telephone call one week later to the companies you are interested in working for.
