The 75-member Vanguard University Concert Choir is the largest choral ensemble sponsored by the Department of Music at Vanguard University. The Concert Choir is quickly becoming recognized as one of the premier choral organizations among Christian universities and is well-received by all audiences due to its eclectic and inspiring range of vocal music including traditional, classical, sacred, praise and worship, and Contemporary Christian arrangements. The Vanguard University Women’s Chorus is a music ministry chorus of approximately 45 female singers and a small group of instrumentalists, focused on the study, rehearsal, and performance of SSA(A) choral literature representative of all periods of music, including standard classical repertoire, spirituals, folk songs, hymn/anthem arrangements, and contemporary music. Women's Chorus has represented Vanguard University in concert at banquets, churches, and public and Christian schools throughout California and the Western United States. The Concert Orchestra is committed to excellence in music performance and is well-received by all audiences, due to its eclectic and inspiring range of orchestral music including traditional, classical, sacred, popular, and praise and worship arrangements. The focus of the Concert Orchestra is the study and performance of orchestral literature, including classics, spirituals, hymn/anthem arrangements and contemporary Christian music. The 20-member Vanguard University Jazz Ensemble is the newest major instrumental ensemble sponsored by The Department of Music at Vanguard University. The Jazz Ensemble is committed to excellence in music performance and is well-received by all audiences, due to its eclectic and inspiring range of music including swing, be-bop, cool, hard-bop, Latin, fusion, and others related to the jazz idiom. The Jazz Ensemble performs at special concerts on and off campus; provides music at athletic events, and other University functions. The Jazz Ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Kenneth Foerch. Specialized Ensembles

The Vanguard Singers & Band is the longest running and most recognizable music performance group at Vanguard University. This select vocal and instrumental ensemble is under the direction of Dr. James L. Melton. This 27-member ensemble (comprised of 20 singers and 7 band members) represents Vanguard University at local churches, schools, prayer meetings, and conventions, including frequent weekend performances and an annual extended tour. Vanguard Singers & Band studies and performs sacred choral literature of all styles with an emphasis on contemporary Christian music. (more )

The University Jazz Combo is an 12-member ensemble, focusing on jazz literature including swing, be-bop, cool, hard-bop, Latin, fusion, and others related to the jazz idiom. Arrangements of worship/spiritual tunes are also a vital component of the repertoire. SAXOPHONE QUARTET
The University Saxophone Quartet, under the direction of Dr. Kenneth R. Foerch, rehearses and performs original and arranged literature specific to the saxophone quartet. The group provides a positive and quality instrumental experience for music students and others from the student body that have an interest in developing skills necessary for the performance of chamber music. This ensemble helps to develop an appreciation for saxophone quartet repertoire, increase the ability of all players to sight-read music, and develop a strong sense of ensemble. Arrangements of worship/spiritual tunes are a vital component of the repertoire covered. |
