What should I do in an emergency? 

Earthquake

  1. Stay where you are until the motion stops.
  2. If you are inside DUCK under a table or desk and HOLD onto the legs of the desk or table.
  3. Stay away from trees, doors, windows or tall building and power lines.
  4. Examine yourself and others for possible injuries.
  5. Evacuate the building after the shaking is over. Help others evacuate the building after the shaking is over.
  6. Allow the Maintenance Department and Campus Safety Services to evaluate the buildings for gas, fire, electrical and structural problems.
  7. Students should proceed to their assigned evacuation area and report to their Resident Assistant or Residence Director. Faculty and Staff should report to their Department Head or Director.
  8. After the building is cleared of safety problems you may return to your room or office and check for any safety hazards.
  9. Report any problems or changes to your room or office to Campus Safety Services or the Maintenance Department.

Fire or Fire Drill

  1. When the fire alarm sounds immediately stop your activity and exit the building per the assigned evacuation route or nearest exit.
  2. Report to your assigned evacuation area and report to your Resident Assistant or Residence Director. If you are visiting a friend in a residence building other than your assigned building stay with your friend during the evacuation.
  3. Wait for the "All Clear" before entering the building.
  4. Never use the elevators to evacuate a building while a fire alarm is sounding.
