What is a learning community?
A set of individuals living together with a common interest to learn and grow together.

Who is the ideal resident for this floor?
Any Vanguard student who has a desire to grow in their understanding of how sustainable living could impact their life and the lives around them. While previous commitments to this cause are beneficial, the overall purpose of this community is to foster growth in caring about environmental responsibility. We are looking for people who are willing to stretch themselves around a united concept.

What are the requirements to live on this floor?

  • A desire to know about and practice ideas related to sustainable living
  • Plan together one community service project during the school year
  • Attendance at monthly floor meeting- speaker, lecture, etc.
  • Priority is given to juniors and seniors. Highly qualified sophomores will be placed on the floor if space is available.
  • Good academic standing

What are the benefits of living on this floor?

  • The name, specific programs, speakers and activities of the floor are all determined by the students living in the community.
  • This is a unique opportunity to learn alongside peers who have the same passions as you
  • There are only 19 students allowed to live on this floor
  • This community is located on the 4th floor of Balboa-1 quad of men, 1 quad of women

Students in learning communities report greater academic engagement, institutional commitment, and a more positive learning environment than similar students not enrolled in a learning community.

How can I live on this floor?
Submit an application before housing registration (by March 27). Applications can be downloaded HERE or picked up in the housing office.
