Mission Statement
Six Educational Targets have been identified by the administrators and faculty of Vanguard University. The Spiritual Formation Department supports these six targets in the following ways:
Intellectual Engagement
The SFD encourages careful study of Scripture, and thoughtful reflection upon all areas of faith and practice through Chapel experiences, small groups, and a wealth of other on and off campus activities.
Spiritual Formation
The SFD provides opportunities for the VU community to be transformed into the image of Christ through experiences that involve active participation in settings that maximize receptivity to the Holy Spirit's sanctifying work.
Professional Excellence
The SFD provides instruction and training opportunities for students seeking full-time ministry positions. The SFD also encourages students entering the marketplace to form a sound scriptural and ethical basis for all decisions they will make in the business world.
Aesthetic Expression
The SFD provides training and opportunities for art, drama, interpretive dance, and other fine arts groups to minister on and off campus.
Responsible Stewardship
The SFD is committed to developing "world Christians." The SFD promotes a diverse array of Christian service opportunities that meet the spiritual and physical needs of other groups. A small sample would include church youth groups, homeless people, the developmentally disabled, the elderly, and abused children.
Sociocultural Responsiveness
The SFD promotes the biblical mandate of love, justice, and respect for all persons. The department provides support of all kinds to a wide variety of groups on campus, and designs events and Chapel services that bring people together to celebrate our diversity.
