Since launching First to VU, our first-generation advocacy program, we have discovered that 51% of our full time faculty--including our University President and Provost--are first-generation students. This gives us great insight into the reason our growing first-generation student population is succeeding. The understanding that comes from shared experiences and, inspiration that comes for students as they face challenges and are reminded of all that you have already overcome to get where you are today is invaluable.
